Derek Ryan DeMoss, 26, of Jefferson was sentenced in Greene County district court Feb. 24 to one year in jail on a charge of assault-serious. All but 10 days of the jail time was suspended and he was placed on probation for one year. He was fined $315 with a $110.25 surcharge. Richard Allen Frye, 33, of Grand Junction was granted a deferred judgment Feb. 24 after he changed his plea to guilty to one count of burglary-third degree. He was placed on probation for three years. A civil penalty of $750 was suspended, but Frye must pay a $125 Law Enforcement Initiative surcharge, $625 restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees, and $221 court costs. Brian Jay Williams, 26, of Pilot Mound was sentenced Feb. 28 to five years in prison on a charge of operating while intoxicated (OWI)-third offense. All but 30 days of the prison term was suspended, and he is to be given credit for time spent in an inpatient treatment program. He will be on probation for three years. He must complete a drinking drivers course and undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any further treatment recommended. He was fined $3,125 with a $1,093.75 surcharge and a $10 surcharge for drug abuse resistance education (DARE). His driver’s license was revoked for six years. He must pay $180 for his court appointed attorney’s fees and $334.24 court costs. (Sentencing: Kester)
James Thomas Powell was sentenced to two days in jail after pleading guilty to a charge of OWI-first degree, amended from OWI-second degree. He may complete an OWI weekend offender program in lieu of the jail time. He must also complete a drinking drivers course. He was fined $1,250 with a $437.50 surcharge and a $10 DARE surcharge. Kyle Jo Freese, 28, of Glidden was sentenced to two years in prison after pleading guilty to a charge of driving while license barred-habitual offender. The prison term was suspended and she was placed on probation for two years. She was fined $625 with a $218.75 surcharge. Court costs were $100. (Sentencing: Kester)
Paul Eugene Oyres, 22, of Paton was sentenced to two years in prison after he pleaded guilty to a charge of domestic abuse assault-second offense. The prison term was suspended and he was placed on probation for two years. He was fined $625 with a $218.75 surcharge; the fine and surcharge were suspended. Oyres must complete a batterers education program at his own expense. Court costs were $116.50. (Sentencing: Kester)
Persons pleaded not guilty at arraignments as follows: Jarrett Long, 23, of Grand Junction, willful injury, assault-aggravated, assault-serious, trespass-serious; and Phillip Michael Kenoyer, 25, of Grand Junction, burglary-third degree, theft-fourth degree, criminal mischief-third degree. A trial date was set for April 8 for Long and for April 29 for Kenoyer.
Cases were initiated in district court during the week that ended Feb. 28 against Thomas James Petrzilka, 28, of Scranton, charged with criminal mischief-second degree; and against Daniel Lee Walker, 35, of Perry, charged with possession of marijuana with intent to deliver.
